DOM’S STORY.
As a popular and well-respected rugby player, Dominic Day’s courage to take the road less travelled has brought great personal and professional rewards. The 6ft 6in second row made over 250 appearances for top-flight clubs during his career, including 68 for Llanelli RFC, 92 for Scarlets, 110 for Bath and 34 for Saracens, with whom he won two Premiership medals and a European Rugby Champions Cup medal. He also enjoyed spells in with Toyota Verblitz in Japan and Melbourne Rebels in Australia – life-changing experiences which broadened his outlook on his sporting career and encouraged him to diversify his interests. A proud Welshman, he represented Wales at under-19, under-21 and senior levels, and was a member of Wales’s 2015 Rugby World Cup squad.
Throughout his career, Dom was always conscious about preparing for a life after sport, as he knew that sporting careers can be short and unpredictable. He believes that having the mindset to think more long-term is vitally important for athletes, and he has learned that you have to be prepared today for your life tomorrow. So when a knee injury forced him to retire from rugby in November 2019, his career-long determination to consider a life after rugby had given him the financial and professional independence to thrive in the next phase of his life.
As a young player, Dom had studied sports science at the University of Wales Institute in Cardiff (UWIC) and he went on to co-found a game-changing cannabidiol (CBD) business called Fourfive with fellow Haydart investor George Kruis. The business, whose customers include Olympians, pro boxers and rugby stars, now sells its products in Boots and has achieved a £2 million turnover.
The confidence and sense of responsibility Dom gained from his business success encouraged him to join Haydart, aware that property remains one of the safest and steadiest ways to invest his income. He saw that his colleagues Huw and Jez had huge experience in the real estate business and he admired their sensible long-term approach to investment. He likes the way everyone co-invests together and the extra sense of comfort and security that brings. And he insists Haydart offers a turnkey solution for co-investors, with the company taking care of all due diligence and ensuring all payments are made on time.
Dom’s career has taught him to think more long-term, to look outside of his sport, and to make wise investments with trusted people. He believes Haydart offers the ideal kind of steady and simple solution for other athletes who, like him, are keen to prepare for the next stage of their lives.
